Popular skiing destination for the British tourists in the middle 1980’s, Kranjska gora is still today a popular winter destination. Less than an 1h30 drive by car from Ljubljana, many Slovenes have their secondary holiday homes in Kranjska gora or in small alpine villages around it. Tourists will find there numerous hotels, apartments or rooms to rent. But many Slovenes come to Kranjska gora just for a day. Among the foreign tourists, you can spot Italians and Austrians (Kranjska gora is situated just a few kilometrs from the two borders), as well as the Brits.
On a sunny winter day, the town cafés are full of holiday makers, while the slopes are attracting the skiers. Great thing about skiing in Kranjska gora are the easy approachable ski slopes. You can literally walk from your hotel or apartment to the ski-lifts. Diverse ski slopes offer good skiing to both beginners and experienced skiers (the latest can try the world cup ski slope Vitranc, that hosts men’s Alpine Skiing World Cup every year in March). There are also slopes for children and baby lifts.
Cross country skiers love coming to Kranjska gora as well. There are around 40 kilometrs of well kept cross country tracks from the centre of Kranjska gora, towards the famous ski jumping facilities at Planica deep into the Tamar Valley and back to Kranjska gora. Great way to explore the valley! In spring and summer this area is perfect to explore on a bike or by foot.
