As this year Ljubljana is celebrating 2000 years of the roman city of Emona, numerous events, tours and exhibitions will be organised for the public to learn more about Roman times in Ljubljana.
After 1st May you will be able to experience the Roman Emona dressed in a Roman attire and accompanied by a Roman legionary and a tourist guide. You will see the streets, squares and buildings that have surivived to these days: Roman city gate, burial ground, interacitve presentation of the town called iEmona, remnants of the city wall, early Christian centre etc. Tour in day time or with torches of two hours for 15 € per person. Guided tours for groups need to be booked in advance.
Via Slovenica tour will take you along the Roman road from Emona (Ljubljana) to Celeia (Celje) and Petovia (Ptuj). You will also stop at the well preserved Roman necropolis, learn all about Celeia and Petovia with its Mithraeum.
This full day excursion is leaving once a week on Thursdays and it is accompanied by a guide speaking English.
