Traditional carnival parade happened yesterday in Ptuj with more than 30.000 spectators and over 3.000 masks from 11 countries (Slovenia, Germany, Belgium, Croatia, Russia, Serbia, Macedonia, Bulgaria …). It was cold, but we insisted for nearly 3h to see all the participating masks.
Besides the Kurenti, the stars of this carnival, we saw numerous traditional masks like the chicks, the plowmen, the bear, the fairies, Gypsies from Dornava, the Devil, and also more contemporary and even political masks. You will find more photos on our Google+ profile.
The Ptuj carnival will finish tomorrow, on Shrove or Greasy Tuesday, with the carnival burial ceremony and the transfer of power back to the Mayor of Ptuj. It has been snowing a lot recently, so let’s hope that during the carnival Kurenti managed to chase the winter away and the spring will be here soon 🙂
