There are many events, festivals and concerts planned in spring all over Slovenia. I will mention my favourite ones. Please feel free to add yours.
1. Chocolate festival in Radovljica on 20th and 21st April. If you like the smell and taste of chocolate, do not miss this unique festival in Slovenia next weekend. There will be plenty opportunities for tasting all sorts of chocolate products as well as the entertainment programme for children and adults.
2. Walk along the wire or Path of remembrance is a yearly event, a memorial walk of 35 km arund the city of Ljubljana. During the WW2 the Province of Ljubljana was occupied by the Fascist Italy and after the emergence of resistance, the barbed wire fence was put up around the city in order to prevent the communication between the city activists and the partisans in the countryside. The path was finished in 1985 with signposts, information boards and memorial stones and it is used by the citizens for walking and jogging.
This year the event is taking place from 9th until 11th May, starting with the walks for pre-school children, primary schools and high schools students. The main event is on Saturday, 11th May with a 57th traditional walk along the wire. Everybody is invited and if you manage to walk around the whole circle – 35 km passing all 8 control points, you win a medal.
3. Cherry festival in Goriska Brda between 1st and 3rd June. Goriska Brda is a region in the Western part of Slovenia, by Italian border, known for the cherries and excellent wine. The main events are taking place over the weekend, starting with a traditional cycling marathon from Ljubljana to Goriska Brda on Saturday morning. On Sunday morning you can join a traditional “hike from a cherry tree to a cherry tree”. In the afternoon you can enjoy the music, food and wine tasting in the streets of Smartno. There will be also stands selling Brda local products.
4. Idrija Lace Festival from 14th to 16th June in Idrija. Several workshops and exhibitions are organised in Idrija town centre. You will be able to taste some local dishes and enjoy the local music. You can even learn how to make a typical Idrija lace.
