Bohinj is not Bled. No big hotels or resorts here — and that's exactly what makes it charming. The accommodations are Slovenian family homes, alpine farms, wooden chalets in the middle of meadows. Budget around €40-45 per person per night, and the quality is often better than what you find in Bled for twice the price.
Roanjek Farm – The Authentic Alpine Stay
In the village of Gorjuše, above the lake. Traditional rustic decor, home-cooked meals with produce from the farm. The owner cooks like a Slovenian grandmother — and that's the finest compliment I can give. The peace is absolute, the mountain views spectacular. It's the address I recommend to travellers looking for authenticity above all.
Vila Triglav – The Favourite
On the Pokljuka plateau, this renovated villa is run by Tadej Vlajvec, a cyclist and mountain guide. Comfortable rooms, breakfast with local produce, a sauna and a Nordic bath in the forest. It's the perfect compromise between authenticity and modern comfort. Tadej knows every trail in the region and shares his routes with guests.
Soklič Farm – The Best Value for Money
In the village of Savica, at €35/person. A family farm with a trampoline, table tennis and a terrace facing the mountains. Kids love it, parents unwind. Stunning views of the Triglav massif. Breakfast is generous and local. It's the ideal address for families: the lake is 10 minutes away by car, the Vogel cable car right next door.
Alpik Chalets – By the Lake
250 m from the lake, these traditional wooden chalets sleep 2 to 7 people. Perfect for groups or large families. Equipped kitchen, shared garden, and the Vogel cable car within walking distance. The chalets have kept their alpine character while offering modern comfort (wifi, heating). Book early — they fill up from spring onwards.
ARH House – Alpine Design
For lovers of beautiful things, this house combines contemporary architecture with traditional materials. Wood, stone, large picture windows onto the mountains. The apartments are spacious and tastefully decorated. It's the most “designer” address in my selection, without losing its alpine soul. A notch above in price, but the quality delivers.
What to Know About Accommodation in Bohinj
Slovenian houses are real family homes — not slapdash builds for tourists. You rent an apartment in the house, often with a shared garden and a terrace. The welcome is warm, the owners know the region inside out and gladly share their tips. Free cancellation in most cases. Book as early as possible for spring and summer — Bohinj is increasingly popular and the best addresses go fast.
Day Trips from Bohinj
Bohinj is an ideal base camp. In a day you can reach the Vintgar gorge, Velika Planina, the Pokljuka plateau, the Peričnik waterfall or even the Austrian lakes of Carinthia (a 1-hour drive). The Soča Valley and the Goriška Brda wine region are within reach by bus or train. It's the perfect central point for exploring the Julian Alps without changing accommodation every night.
